As the daughter of renowned trial attorneys Marynell Maloney and Michael Maloney, and the granddaughter of celebrated trial attorney Pat Maloney, Sr., there has long been a family joke that Erica was “programmed” from birth to become a trial lawyer.

Erica graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, in 2007 with a double major in philosophy and art history. Following in her family’s footsteps, she chose to pursue a career in law. She earned a full scholarship to the University of California, Irvine School of Law—a school that, the year she applied, had the lowest acceptance rate of any law school in the country, accepting only 4 percent of applicants.

In 2012, Erica returned home to San Antonio to practice law. Since then, she has dedicated her career to advocating for individuals and families affected by medical negligence. As the mother of four children, Erica has placed particular focus on cases involving infants who have suffered catastrophic birth injuries. She has handled multiple cases involving hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy caused by negligence during labor and delivery, as well as cases involving women and infants who tragically died in childbirth. She approaches these cases with a strong sense of compassion for the families enduring such difficult circumstances.

Erica has also taken on challenging cases involving negligence in hospital emergency departments. These cases are notoriously difficult in Texas because they require plaintiffs to meet a heightened burden of proof. Even so, she has successfully resolved several high-damage emergency department cases.

Erica is committed to taking cases she feels strongly about and those that have the potential to create meaningful change. She values the close bonds she develops with clients and sees litigation as a way to push for safer healthcare. In addition to medical malpractice cases, she also represents individuals seriously injured by defective products and in commercial vehicle accidents.

Erica serves on the Board of Directors of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association. She has been recognized as a Texas Super Lawyers Rising Star from 2021–2025 and is consistently named a top personal injury lawyer by Scene in San Antonio. She is also a member of both the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
